NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR

The High Stakes in Finding and Hiring the Right Leader

THE CHALLENGE

Fulfilling a pressing need for leadership

Neighbor to Neighbor, Greenwich’s food pantry and clothing room, is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to improving lives by providing clothing and access to nutritious food at no cost to Greenwich area residents. Several years ago, Neighbor to Neighbor found itself without an Executive Director and turned to The Strategy Group to help lead the search process.

THE OUTCOME

A proven leader was chosen

An Executive Director was hired after five months by the Neighbor to Neighbor’s search committee using The Strategy Group’s four-step process for Executive Searches:

1) Preparation:  A board retreat was held to map out the organization’s current strategic position and outline qualifications and job description for the new Executive Director.

2) Screening & Selection:  A formal recruitment and outreach plan was created and The Strategy Group handled the preliminary screening of candidates, and helped facilitate all interviews.

3) Hire:  On the search committee’s behalf, The Strategy Group negotiated the offer including salary, benefits, and start date with the final candidate.

4) Onboarding:  The Strategy Group worked with Executive Director and Neighbor to Neighbor’s Board Chair for 90 days post hire to assure successful transition and placement.

“The Strategy Group presents solutions in a way that makes sense to those with a range of skills and experiences and in a way that can meaningfully be implemented. Our Board of Directors came out of our recent retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and practical skills to bring our organization to the next level of nonprofit excellence.”
