Join us on Friday, November 8 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. for Open Office Hours. Last month, Debra and Karen kicked off a new and improved hourly conversation with Strategy Group friends via Zoom. The first half hour focuses on a topic of conversation of our choice, and then we open it up to whatever is on your mind.
This month, we’re talking about diversity and inclusion – in recent months, we’ve seen a shift in how nonprofits (and for profits) are approaching their DEI work. Some are leaning in and some are scaling back and changing their strategies. One thing remains the same, managers still need to be equipped to address and mitigate conflicts in their workplace as they supervise teams with diverse views and identities – and this starts with understanding, and unlearning, unconscious bias.
In this article from the Harvard Business Review, the author breaks down for us five unconscious biases that are learned, and that can be unlearned, thanks to the phenomenon known as neuroplasticity. Take a read and then let’s talk about what you think, and what you might have already tried with your staff! Mindfulness? Stereotype replacement? Individuation? Prosocial behavior? Perspective-taking?
Come discuss with us on Friday, November 8!
